Dr. Giuseppe Pierpaolo Merola

About Me

I am Dr Giuseppe Pierpaolo Merola, psychiatrist and psychotherapist. My goal is to help you regain mental balance through a modern, tailored approach that uses few but carefully chosen medicines for maximum benefit with minimal impact.

Psychiatrist at UOC Formia – San Dono Svizzero Hospital and Visiting Researcher at King’s College London, I combine clinical work with scientific research.

I offer consultations online via the platform Doctorium, or in person in Rome, the Castelli Romani area, Florence, and Prato.

I graduated as my MD from Sapienza University of Rome (2020) and specialised in Psychiatry at the University of Florence (2025). I am author of scientific papers and of the book Il Paradosso della Schizofrenia.

I am registered as a specialist in psychiatry with the UK GMC Specialist Register (No. 8096759) and with the Ordine dei Medici of Rome (No. 66655).

Research & Innovation

My research focuses on the biological and evolutionary bases of mental health. I collaborate with international institutes, including the University of Florence and King’s College London, to develop advanced computational models that improve diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. I am also a founding member of the Foundation for Evolution and Mental Health, a UK charitable organisation dedicated to advancing evolutionary psychiatry.

I believe science and technology can revolutionise mental-health care, delivering ever more personalised treatments.

Therapy Approach

My Approach

My work follows a rational, personalised and humane method inspired by evolutionary psychiatry. Mental health is not just chemistry but a balance of biology, experience and adaptation.

  • Essential pharmacotherapy – Few drugs, chosen for maximum efficacy and minimal invasiveness.
  • Rational & human – A balance of science and empathy for effective, respectful support.
  • Shared journey – Care is collaboration, not imposition: together we find the best solution for you.

My aim is to provide clear, effective and sustainable treatment based on trust and cooperation.
